Main Uses

Food Industry

Acidulant: It offers a refreshing taste and long-lasting sourness, commonly used in beverages (soda, fruit juice), jelly, candy, jam, etc. It can partially replace citric acid (usage is about 1/3 of citric acid with similar sourness intensity).

Preservative and Antioxidant Synergist: It can inhibit microbial growth; when compounded with potassium sorbate, it enhances preservation effects. In meat products, it stabilizes color and prevents fat oxidation.

Leavening Agent Component: In baked goods (bread, biscuits), it reacts with sodium bicarbonate to release carbon dioxide, making the product fluffy while regulating acidity.

Pharmaceutical Field

As a pharmaceutical intermediate, it is used to synthesize L-aspartic acid (nutritional supplement), ferrous fumarate (anti-anemia drug with higher absorption rate than ferrous sulfate), ketotifen fumarate (anti-allergy drug), etc.

Directly used in oral cleaning agents, utilizing its weak acidity to inhibit oral bacteria.

Chemicals and Materials

Used in the production of unsaturated polyester resins for fiberglass, coatings, adhesives, etc. The double bonds introduced by fumaric acid can enhance the cross-linking density and mechanical properties of the resin.

Synthesizes plasticizers (such as dibutyl fumarate) and lubricants for plastic and rubber processing.

Used as a dyeing auxiliary in the textile industry to improve dye adhesion and levelness.

Feed Industry

Used as a feed additive to improve livestock appetite and feed utilization efficiency. In ruminant feed in particular, it can regulate rumen fermentation and increase protein absorption.
