Why Wire Rope Clips Cannot Be Used Indiscriminately Regardless of Left or Right Orientation

As is well known, the primary purpose of wire rope clips is to secure the ends of wire ropes. Typically, the outer layer of a wire rope consists of 6 strands twisted at an angle in a right-hand direction. However, not all wire ropes on the market are right-hand twisted; left-hand twisted ropes are now increasingly common. According to the national standard GB/T5976-2006 for wire rope clips, it is explicitly required that the surface of the wire rope must align with the groove direction of the clip saddle in terms of twist orientation. From this, it can be concluded that if the wire rope is left-hand twisted, a left-hand oriented wire rope clip must be selected to comply with usage specifications.

Due to cost factors in market competition, the majority of products available are primarily made through ordinary casting (also referred to as malleable iron or cast iron). Market demand has not driven the production of left-hand twisted rope clips. Some gray iron cast clips are even used for critical wire rope applications. According to the national standard GB/T5976-2006 for wire rope clips, when clips are used on lifting machinery, it is recommended to use (nationally standardized forged) wire rope clips.
