Physicochemical Properties: Appearance Purple-black scaly or flaky crystals with metallic luster. Brittle, vapor appears purple. Has a special irritating odor.
Solubility Slightly soluble in water, solubility increases with temperature; poorly soluble in sulfuric acid; easily soluble in organic solvents; iodine is also soluble in chlorides and bromides; more soluble in iodide solutions; can dissolve sulfur, selenium, ammonium and alkali metal iodides, aluminum, tin, titanium, and other metal iodides.

Uses: Mainly used for the production of iodides, for manufacturing pesticides, feed additives, dyes, iodine tincture, test papers, pharmaceuticals, etc. Used in the preparation of equivalent solvents, determination of iodine value, calibration of sodium thiosulfate solution concentration; solutions can be used as disinfectants, and in photoplatemaking for iodine agents and thinning solution preparation.
