Daily Maintenance of Electrodes:
1. General contamination: Clean the electrode with water, 0.1 mol/L NaOH, or 0.1 mol/L HCl for several minutes.
2. Grease or organic contamination: Clean the electrode with acetone or ethanol for several seconds.
3. Sulfide contamination (blackened diaphragm): Clean with a mixture of 10% HCl and saturated thiourea.
4. Protein contamination (yellowed diaphragm): Clean with a mixture of 10% HCl and saturated pepsin.
Note: When the measured medium causes sulfide or protein contamination on the electrode, it should be treated promptly.
Electrode Storage:
1. When not in use for an extended period, store the electrode in saturated KCl solution or buffer solution.
2. Do not store the electrode dry or with dried medium on its surface. Dry-stored electrodes should be activated in a suitable storage solution before use.
3. Electrodes can be activated in pH 4 buffer solution or 3M HCl (or saturated KCl).
4. Do not store electrodes in distilled water.
