MPP pipes use hot melt welding, with high joint strength, enabling ultra-long, high-traction pipe dragging. They exhibit excellent toughness and possess superior resistance to ground settlement and seismic performance. MPP pipes overcome the drawbacks of PE pipes, which experience a significant decline in mechanical properties above 40°C and cannot be used for cable conduits. They also address the issues of PVC-C pipes, which have poor resistance to ground settlement and cannot be used for traction-based pipe dragging, making MPP pipes the current preferred choice for power conduit materials.

Currently, driven by profit motives, counterfeit MPP pipes are widespread in the market, making it difficult to ensure pipe quality. There are two main methods of counterfeiting MPP pipes: First, to reduce costs, some manufacturers use recycled materials instead of new materials to produce recycled pipes. Second, MPP pipes are made from polypropylene modified through formulation, known as modified polypropylene (MPP) pipes, which are relatively expensive. In contrast, PE pipes are extruded from high-density polyethylene (HDPE), which is less costly. However, since it is difficult to distinguish between modified polypropylene (MPP) and high-density polyethylene (HDPE) based on appearance alone, some MPP pipe manufacturers, driven by profit, pass off HDPE as MPP. Some even use recycled or waste HDPE materials to produce pipes and falsely label them as MPP.

The first type of counterfeit is relatively difficult to distinguish, and due to its inability to meet strength requirements, it is mostly used in direct-buried conduit applications. For the second type of counterfeit, besides laboratory testing, identification can be based on the material properties of MPP and HDPE. MPP pipes are heat-resistant and rigid, while PE pipes, being thermoplastic, cannot withstand high temperatures. Understanding this fundamental difference makes it easy to identify them on construction sites without specialized testing equipment. MPP pipes, being heat-resistant, do not decompose during cutting, resulting in a smooth and even cut surface. Additionally, those familiar with the two types of pipes can also identify them by tapping the pipe and listening to the sound. MPP pipes, being rigid, produce a clear and bright sound.
