| Physicochemical Properties | Methyl acetate is also known as methyl ethanoate. It is a colorless, transparent liquid with a fragrant odor and a slightly bitter taste. It is flammable and volatile. It dissolves in ethanol, ether, water, acetone, benzene, and chloroform, and is miscible with alcohols and ethers. Its solubility in water is 31.9g/100ml (20°C). It naturally exists in grapes and bananas. Explosion limits: 3.1%–16%; maximum allowable concentration in air: 200ppm. The vapor is narcotic and toxic if inhaled. |
