| Physicochemical Properties | White crystals. Melting point 64°C, boiling point 114.5°C. Sublimes at 46°C. Easily soluble in water (17.2g/100ml at 18°C, 21.1g/100ml at 25°C), alcohols, ethers, chloroform, carbon disulfide, aromatic hydrocarbons, and other organic solvents; slightly soluble in petroleum ether and pentane. Forms an azeotrope with water, boiling point 91.4°C, containing 70% (by weight) of trioxane. Aqueous solutions are gradually depolymerized by strong acids but do not react with alkalis. Can be converted to monomers by small amounts of strong acids in non-aqueous systems. Has a chloroform-like odor. |
