Application Fields

Relying on "strong substitution activity + high selectivity," it is primarily used in scenarios requiring chlorination or phosphorylation, and must be operated in anhydrous systems:

Organic Synthesis Field:

Preparation of phosphate esters: Reacts with alcohols to generate phosphate triesters (e.g., trimethyl phosphate, triphenyl phosphate), used as flame retardants, plasticizers, and pesticide intermediates.

Chlorinating agent: Replaces alcohol hydroxyl groups with chlorine atoms (e.g., ethanol → chloroethane, benzyl alcohol → benzyl chloride). Reaction conditions are mild (no high temperature required), and selectivity is higher than the concentrated hydrochloric acid-zinc chloride system.

Synthesis of phosphoramidates: Reacts with amines to generate phosphoramidate compounds, used as pharmaceutical intermediates (e.g., anticancer drugs, antibiotics).

Semiconductor and Electronics Industry:

Dopant: High-purity POCl? (electronic grade) is used for phosphorus doping of silicon wafers. Through thermal diffusion processes, it forms N-type semiconductors on the silicon wafer surface to control chip conductivity.

Etchant: Formulated with other reagents, it is used for etching metal or oxide thin films in photolithography processes, with precision reaching the micrometer level.

Pesticides and Flame Retardants:

Pesticide raw materials: Synthesis of organophosphorus pesticides (e.g., the herbicide glyphosate, the insecticide chlorpyrifos). The phosphoryl chloride group is the active site in pesticide molecules.

Flame retardant synthesis: Preparation of phosphorus-based flame retardants (e.g., ammonium polyphosphate, phosphate ester flame retardants), used in plastics, textiles, and coatings to improve material flame retardancy (oxygen index ≥30).

Other Fields:

Catalyst: Used in Friedel-Crafts reactions to promote the acylation or alkylation of aromatic hydrocarbons.

Reagent purification: Used as a dehydrating agent to remove trace amounts of water in organic synthesis (avoiding hydrolysis side reactions).
