Main Uses

　　Catalyst in Organic Synthesis:

　　As a superacid catalyst, it promotes olefin polymerization and alkylation/acylation reactions of aromatic compounds (such as Friedel-Crafts reactions), with reaction efficiency far exceeding that of traditional acid catalysts (such as concentrated sulfuric acid).

　　Catalyzes esterification reactions, for example, the formation of esters from carboxylic acids and alcohols. Due to its strong acidity, it can proceed efficiently under mild conditions with few side reactions.

　　Ionic Liquids and Electrolytes:

　　Its salts (such as lithium trifluoromethanesulfonate) are excellent electrolytes for lithium-ion batteries, possessing high conductivity and chemical stability, which can enhance battery performance.

　　Ionic liquids formed with organic amines can serve as green solvents for catalytic reactions or extraction and separation.

　　Surface Treatment and Material Modification:

　　Used for polymer surface treatment to introduce sulfonic acid groups, improving the hydrophilicity and adhesion of materials.

　　Etching metal or glass surfaces, utilizing its strong corrosivity to prepare precision structures.

　　Synthesis of pharmaceutical intermediates, for example, acting as a proton donor or catalyst in the production of antibiotics and antiviral drugs.
