1. Coatings and Inks Industry

Solvent-based coatings: Used as a main solvent or co-solvent for nitrocellulose lacquers, alkyd paints, and acrylic paints to dissolve resins and regulate drying speed (medium volatility balances leveling properties with fast-drying requirements); for example, butyl acetate can account for 30%-50% of nitrocellulose lacquers, combined with a small amount of toluene to enhance solvency;

Ink solvents: Used in gravure and flexographic inks to dissolve pigments and binders (such as polyamide resins), ensuring uniform color and rapid drying of printed materials (especially suitable for paper and film printing).

2. Fragrance and Food Industry

Synthetic fragrances: As it naturally exists in fruits such as pears, bananas, and apples, it is often used as a main component of "fruit-type flavorings" for flavoring beverages, candies, and pastries (FDA allows limited use with a daily intake of ≤10mg/kg);

Extraction solvents: Used to extract fragrance components (such as essential oils) from plants or to separate food additives (such as citric acid) from fermentation broths; due to low toxicity and easy volatility for removal, it does not affect product safety.

3. Adhesives and Chemical Separation

Adhesive solvents: Dissolve rubber and resins (such as polyvinyl acetate) in pressure-sensitive adhesives and hot-melt adhesives to improve coating properties and initial tack (e.g., used for tapes and label adhesives);

Industrial extraction: Used in chemical separation to extract rare metals (such as rhodium, palladium) or organic compounds (such as recovering phenols from wastewater), utilizing its high solubility for organic substances and low miscibility with water.

4. Other Fields

Cleaning agents: Remove grease and coating residues from metal surfaces, or used as cleaning agents for printing equipment (fast evaporation, no residue);

Organic synthesis: Used as a reaction medium or intermediate in the preparation of ester derivatives (e.g., reaction of butyl acetate with ethylene glycol to produce polyesters).
