Zhejiang Sugar Energy Technology Co., Ltd. was founded in 2017, headquartered in Ningbo. It is a high-tech enterprise specializing in the design and development of bio-based furan new materials. The Company’s technologies rely on Ningbo Institute of Materials Technology & Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Now it has 27 employees, over 50% of whom have a graduate degree or above. The Company’s production bases in Hubei and Shandong have the world’s largest (kiloton/year) 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) production capacity.

　　HMF is considered as the most promising bio-based platform compound. In recent years, it has been the focus of attention of the material industry. The Company innovatively applies artificial intelligence and cloud computing technology to the development of HMF derivatives and end products, and uses the characteristics of“fusion derivative”of HMF platform compound to conduct reverse design and development of functional derivatives and end products with the end market’s demand for“perfect products”as the target. At present, more than 10 core derivatives have been developed and end products have been developed from these derivatives, which can be widely used in degradable plastics, high-end lubricants, new polymers, pharmaceutical intermediates, fine chemicals and other fields. On 19 January 2020, the National Development and Reform Commission and the Ministry of Ecology and Environment of the People’s Republic of China promulgated the Opinions on Further Strengthening the Control of Plastic Pollution, which provided policy support for the application of biodegradable materials. According to the estimate on the implementation schedule and implementation intensity of plastic ban policy in various provinces and cities, the market value of biodegradable plastics could reach RMB 100 billion by 2030.

　　The Company has rich experience and technical accumulation in the design and development of multiphase catalysts. Through regulating the pore structure of catalysts, the active metal components and the interaction between metals and carriers, HMF series derivatives can be synthesized with high selectivity.

　　The Company’s products cover a full product chain of platform compound HMF, functional derivatives and end products.As the core product of the Company, the platform compound HMF can provide 5% to 80% liquid and 80% to 99.9% high-purity solid according to the requirements of different fields.At present, the Company has realized the scale production of functional derivatives, such as bis (hydroxymethyl) furan and tetrahydrofuran dimethanol, and the development of derivatives can be customized for the needs of users in different fields. For application-oriented end products, the Company has developed several series of products, such as functional polyester for degradable plastics and diester for high-end lubricants.
