Edible mushroom cultivation, as a profitable project with small investment, short cycle, and quick results, has been widely promoted across the country. In 2019, China's total edible mushroom production reached 39.6191 million tons. Among the various production models of edible mushrooms, industrialized production has become the dominant direction in the edible mushroom industry due to its significant advantages. Although scattered farming by individual households still accounts for the vast majority of production, the industrialized production of edible mushrooms in 2019 still reached 3.4368 million tons, accounting for approximately 8.7% of the total output. Five major industrialized edible mushroom industry clusters have formed in Fujian, Jiangsu, Shandong, Henan, and Zhejiang provinces, with a daily production capacity of nearly 10,000 tons. Industrialized edible mushroom production generates a large number of spent mushroom bags at the end of the cultivation cycle.
