Properties: Colorless to white monoclinic crystals or crystalline powder. Odorless, with a special sour taste; taste threshold: 0.0039%. Relative density 1.57. Melting point 188°C. Boiling point 235°C. Soluble in water (1g/13ml, 25°C), easily soluble in hot water (1g/1ml). pH of 1% solution is about 2.7. Soluble in ethanol (5.4g/100ml), glycerol (about 5g/100ml), insoluble in ether and petroleum ether.

Succinic Acid Uses: Acidulant; buffer; neutralizing agent; flavoring agent. Can be used in sake at 0.08%~0.09%; flavoring agent for Japanese fermented soybean paste, soy sauce, soft drinks, confectionery products, etc.

Succinic acid acts as a surfactant, detergent additive, and foaming agent; as an ion chelating agent in the electroplating industry to prevent metal dissolution and pitting; and in the food industry as an acidulant, pH modifier, flavoring substance, and antimicrobial agent.

Product Uses: Succinic acid (including salts) can produce sourness and flavor, and is used in soybean paste, soy sauce, Japanese sake, seasonings, etc. As an ion chelating agent, it is used in the electroplating industry to prevent metal dissolution and pitting; it is a good surfactant and a component of detergents, soaps, and demulsifiers; it can be used to produce depilatory agents, toothpaste, cleaning agents, and high-efficiency anti-wrinkle beauty esters. It is also used in lubricants, additives, and elastomers. In textile processing, it can be used for sizing to prevent shrinkage and improve dyeability. It improves the viscosity and flame retardancy of caprolactam, among other uses.
