Mud protection involves the use of a mixture of water, bentonite, CMC, and other additives. In projects such as diaphragm wall trenching and bored pile drilling, the static pressure exerted by the mud on the trench walls and the mud cake formed on the walls effectively prevent the collapse of the trenches or boreholes. Additionally, the mud serves to carry away debris and cool and lubricate the machinery. Mud with a certain viscosity can discharge debris along with it.
