Dioctyl sebacate, also known as bis(2-ethylhexyl) sebacate, with the molecular formula: C??H??O? and a molecular weight of 426.66. It appears as a pale yellow liquid under standard conditions, slightly soluble in water and easily soluble in ethanol. It is used as a raw material in the production of nylon-610 fiber and nylon-9 fiber. Its esters serve as plasticizers in the plastics industry. It is obtained by heating, saponification, and thermal cracking of castor oil followed by separation.

     Applications:
In addition to being used in polyvinyl chloride cable materials, dioctyl sebacate is also employed in polyvinyl chloride cold-resistant films, artificial leather, and other products. It can also be used as a plasticizer for various rubbers, nitrocellulose, ethyl cellulose, polystyrene, vinyl chloride-vinyl acetate copolymers, etc. It features high plasticizing efficiency, low volatility, excellent cold resistance, as well as good heat resistance, light resistance, and electrical insulation properties. However, dioctyl sebacate has relatively high migration tendencies, is easily extracted by hydrocarbons, and its water resistance is not ideal. Therefore, it is often used in combination with phthalate esters.
     Storage Precautions
Store in a cool, well-ventilated warehouse. Keep away from fire and heat sources. It should be stored separately from oxidizing agents and must not be mixed. Provide firefighting equipment of corresponding types and quantities. The storage area should be equipped with leak emergency handling equipment and suitable containment materials.
