Previously, in petrochemical enterprises, explosion-proof lighting fixtures were primarily used in hazardous areas. With the application of increased safety electrical equipment in Zone 2 hazardous locations, increased safety and composite lighting fixtures are increasingly being utilized. Increased safety fixtures, while offering certain explosion-proof performance, are lighter in weight, lower in cost, easier to install and maintain, and have a longer service life compared to explosion-proof fixtures. The commonly used composite electrical equipment in petrochemical enterprises is the increased safety-explosion proof composite explosion-proof electrical equipment, generally consisting of three parts: explosion-proof components, increased safety terminals, and an increased safety enclosure. It combines the safety performance of explosion-proof types with the advantages of increased safety types. In daily maintenance, the following points should be noted.
The explosion-proof light should automatically cut off power before the lampshade is opened. However, due to the complexity of setting up interlock devices, this is not easily achievable, so most fixtures only have a warning sign with words like "Do not open when powered" in a conspicuous place on the enclosure. Additionally, since the surface temperature of the bulb remains high after power-off, immediately opening the lampshade could still risk igniting explosive gas mixtures (mainly referring to explosion-proof structures). Therefore, for light sources with high surface temperatures like incandescent, high-pressure mercury, and high-pressure sodium lamps, and fixtures that can be opened quickly, this point must be noted. The CeY-1 explosion-proof fluorescent lamp, widely used in the author's unit, features an interlock mechanism that cuts power when the cover is opened, providing convenience and safety for maintenance work. As fluorescent lamps are cold light sources, they do not have high surface temperatures, allowing the cover to be opened immediately after power-off.
