Tributyl Citrate Product Introduction and Applications

I. Product Characteristics

1. Physical Properties
   Tributyl citrate (TBC) is a colorless or pale yellow oily liquid with a boiling point as high as 389.8°C (760 mmHg) or 233°C (2.266 kPa), a flash point of 185°C, and a low freezing point. It is slightly soluble in water and easily soluble in organic solvents such as methanol.

2. Chemical Performance
   It exhibits excellent heat resistance (stable at 150°C), light resistance, water resistance, and mildew resistance. It has high plasticizing efficiency, good compatibility, and strong binding ability with PVC, cellulose resins, etc. It is non-toxic, odorless, low in volatility, biodegradable, and highly safe (LD50 oral rat >30 ml/kg).

II. Main Applications

• Plasticizer Applications:

  • Plastic Products: Used as an environmentally friendly primary plasticizer for PVC and cellulose acetate resins, enhancing the flexibility and wear resistance of films, artificial leather, and food packaging films (e.g., beverage straws, candy wrappers). It replaces toxic phthalates in medical devices (infusion bags, gloves) and children's toys.
  • Rubber Industry: Enhances the elasticity of synthetic rubbers such as rubber, used in seals and hoses.

• Other Fields:

  • Improves weather resistance and fluidity in coatings and inks, used in raincoats and flexible floor coverings;
  • Acts as a solvent and thickener in cosmetics (e.g., nail polish), enhancing product stability;
  • Serves as a wood modifier to improve impact resistance.

III. Safety and Handling

This product is non-toxic and environmentally friendly, FDA-approved for use in food contact materials. Storage requires a cool, dry environment, away from oxidizing agents. Due to its biodegradable properties, it is gradually replacing traditional plasticizers.
