Nasal oxygen cannula is a medical device made of soft polyvinyl chloride and silicone rubber, primarily consisting of components such as the flared end, nasal prongs, and headpiece. It connects to an oxygen delivery system to supply oxygen directly to the human body, with the distal end of the tube placed in the nostrils to deliver oxygen, helping to alleviate symptoms of hypoxia.


Its working principle involves the nasal oxygen cannula being a small, flexible tube that contains two open tips. One end of the tube connects to an oxygen source, while the other end attaches to the patient's nose, allowing a continuous flow of oxygen through this conduit.


Today, based on the ISO 23368-2022 standard for Anaesthetic and respiratory equipment—Low-flow nasal cannulae for oxygen therapy, we will briefly introduce the testing items and inspection instruments for nasal oxygen cannulae.


I. Physical Performance

1. Airflow Resistance

When tested according to Appendix A, the pressure increase per meter length of the tube should not exceed 2.0 kPa.

2. Collapse Resistance

When tested according to Appendix B, the flow rate decrease of the nasal oxygen cannula should not exceed 25% of the initial flow rate.

3. Leakage

Under a pressure of 100 kPa, the nasal oxygen cannula should show no leakage.

4. Pressure Resistance

At 200 kPa or twice the maximum working pressure specified by the manufacturer, whichever is greater, the nasal oxygen cannula should not rupture.

II. Testing Instruments for Nasal Oxygen Cannula Performance

The Nasal Oxygen Cannula Comprehensive Performance Tester NOC-02 is an instrument used to test multiple performance aspects of nasal oxygen cannulae, such as airflow resistance, collapse resistance, and patency. It is also known as the Nasal Oxygen Cannula Airflow Resistance and Collapse Resistance Tester or Nasal Oxygen Cannula Testing Equipment, complying with the testing requirements of YY/T 1543-2017 for nasal oxygen cannulae. This device is suitable for all nasal cannulae, whether standalone or those used in conjunction with humidifier bottles and masks. It can test indicators such as airflow resistance, collapse resistance, leakage, pressure resistance, and patency of nasal oxygen cannulae.
