Silicon carbide rods are non-metallic heating elements whose resistivity changes with temperature in a non-linear manner. There is an inflection point in the resistivity of silicon carbide rods at around 800 degrees Celsius.
The greater the current applied to a silicon carbide rod, the higher its surface temperature. It is recommended to use the smallest possible surface load density (power). Please note that the current and voltage values recorded at the cold end are measured at 1000°C in air and may not correspond to actual usage. Generally, the surface power is determined based on the relationship between the furnace temperature and surface temperature, and it is advisable to use a surface power (W/cm2) that is 1/2 to 1/3 of the limit density.
For continuous use, gradually increasing the resistance can help maintain a longer lifespan.
Parallel connection is recommended whenever possible. If the resistances differ, connecting them in series may cause a concentration of load on the higher resistance, leading to rapid resistance increase and shortened lifespan.
