Inverter Selection Principles

        Grid-tied inverters are critical equipment in photovoltaic power generation systems, playing a pivotal role in the conversion efficiency and reliability of the PV system. The main technical principles for inverter selection are as follows:

(1) Reliable performance and high efficiency:

Currently, the power generation cost of photovoltaic systems is relatively high. If the inverter consumes too much energy or fails during operation, it will inevitably lead to a loss in total power generation and reduced system economy. Therefore, the inverter must be reliable, highly efficient, and capable of outputting maximum power (MPPT) based on the current operating conditions of the solar panels.

(2) Wide adaptability range for DC input voltage:

Since the output voltage of solar panels varies with sunlight intensity, weather conditions, and load, the inverter must operate normally within a wide range of DC input voltages and ensure stable AC output voltage.

(3) Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT):

The input resistance of the inverter should adapt to the actual operating characteristics of the photovoltaic power generation system, ensuring that the system operates at the maximum power point.

(4) Low waveform distortion and high power factor:

When large-scale photovoltaic power generation systems are connected to the grid, to avoid polluting the public grid, the inverter must output a sine wave, with the current waveform consistent with the external grid. Waveform distortion should be less than 5%, higher harmonic content less than 3%, and the power factor close to 1.

(5) Protection functions:

Grid-tied inverters should also include protection functions such as AC overvoltage and undervoltage protection, overfrequency and underfrequency protection, high-temperature protection, AC and DC overcurrent protection, DC overvoltage protection, and anti-islanding protection.

(6) Monitoring and data acquisition:

The inverter should have multiple communication interfaces for data acquisition and transmission to a remote control room. Its controller should also have analog input ports to connect with external sensors for measuring data such as sunlight and temperature, facilitating data processing and analysis for the entire power station.
