Product Introduction

Polyacrylamide is a water-soluble polymer, insoluble in most organic solvents, with good flocculation properties, capable of reducing friction resistance between liquids. It can be divided into four types based on ionic characteristics: non-ionic, anionic, cationic, and amphoteric.

Product Features

The flocculation effect of polyacrylamide flocculant in wastewater treatment is due to its two characteristics: long-chain (linear) molecular structure and the presence of a large number of active groups in the polyacrylamide molecule. Polyacrylamide is a straight-chain polymer, with each molecule composed of over 100,000 monomers, making the molecular chain quite long. If fully extended, its length is tens of thousands of times longer than ordinary molecules (such as sucrose) or ions (such as Ca2?). Due to its long and thin molecular chain, it bends or coils into irregular curved shapes. This long molecular chain extends many chemically active groups: amide group -CONH? and carboxyl group -COO?. The amide group is non-ionic but also adept at forming secondary valence bonds with active groups of other substances for adsorption and connection. Because the polyacrylamide molecule is long and thin with many chemically active groups, it can form multiple connections with precipitated particles to create larger flocs. The structure of these flocs is like cotton wool—loose, amorphous, interconnected but not very stable, with many spaces and fine networks inside, containing a large amount of liquid, so the specific gravity of the flocs is quite close to that of the liquid itself.

Product Applications

Polyacrylamide flocculant is widely used in thickening, stabilizing colloids, drag reduction, adhesion, film formation, biomedical materials, etc. In water treatment, it is used as a coagulant aid, flocculant, and sludge dewatering agent. In petroleum drilling and production, it serves as a water reduction agent and oil displacement agent. In the papermaking process, it is used as a retention aid and strengthening agent.

Usage Method

When dissolving, the product should be evenly and slowly added to a dissolver with stirring to avoid clumping. The solution should be prepared at a suitable temperature, and prolonged excessive mechanical shear should be avoided. It is recommended to use a stirrer at 60–200 rpm; otherwise, polymer degradation may occur, affecting the effectiveness. Dilution ratio: 1-3‰, dosage: 1-3 kg per thousand tons of water.
