Potentiometric titration employs two different electrodes. One is the indicator electrode, whose potential varies with the ion concentration of the analyte in the solution; the other is the reference electrode, whose potential remains constant. At the titration endpoint, a sharp decrease or increase in the indicator electrode potential occurs due to a rapid change in the ion concentration of the analyte—this turning point is known as the inflection point.
