Advantages for wastewater treatment: 1. Shortens acclimation time, enabling bacterial strains to reduce the lag phase and quickly adapt to new environments. 2. Other advantages of sodium acetate as a carbon source: In treating municipal wastewater, studies have examined the effects of sludge age (SRT) and external carbon sources (sodium acetate solution) on nitrogen and phosphorus removal. Using sodium acetate as a supplemental carbon source, denitrifying sludge is acclimated, and the pH increase during denitrification is controlled within a 0.5 range using buffer solutions. Denitrifying bacteria can adsorb CH3COONa excessively, so when using CH3COONa as an external carbon source, the effluent COD can be maintained at a low level. Currently, achieving Grade I discharge standards in all urban and county wastewater treatments requires the addition of sodium acetate as a carbon source.
