Properties: White crystal or powder, sparingly soluble in water, acids, and alkaline solutions; insoluble in most organic solvents and hydrofluoric acid. Highly stable. Does not react even with liquid ammonia or concentrated sulfuric acid when heated to fuming; remains unchanged when fused with potassium hydroxide; not reduced by hydrogen; does not decompose upon heating but sublimes. Melting point: 1040°C.
