The Wood's lamp is an ultraviolet lamp that emits light at a wavelength of 365 nm (nanometers). Certain molecules in fungi and bacteria have unique chemical structures that, when excited by the light of this wavelength from the Wood's detection lamp, emit fluorescence of different colors (e.g., porphyrins emit pink fluorescence when excited). Therefore, high-brightness Wood's lamp examination is widely used in dermatology. Based on the color of the emitted fluorescence, it can quickly determine the type and extent of infection for certain bacteria and fungi.

2. When the skin is rubbed or turns red, observe whether the white spots also turn red or if the white spots become more apparent. The latter indicates nevus depigmentosus.

4. The isomorphic reaction of vitiligo under the high-brightness Wood's lamp: On normally pigmented skin in the patient's deltoid area, after routine disinfection with alcohol, a crosshatch pattern is made with a sterilized vaccination needle, measuring 1 cm. After one month, check the scratched area. Depigmentation indicates a positive result, while no change in pigmentation indicates a negative result. Based on the scratch test, the following conclusions can be drawn: A positive isomorphic reaction suggests that the lesions are mostly expanding, respond poorly to photochemotherapy, but respond well to glucocorticoid treatment.
