Laminated rubber bearings are a type of common rubber bearing product made by vulcanizing and bonding several layers of thin steel plates with multiple layers of rubber sheets. These products have sufficient vertical strength to safely and reliably transfer the reaction force from the upper structure to the pier. The bearings possess excellent elasticity to accommodate the rotation at the beam ends of bridges, as well as significant shear deformation capacity to meet the horizontal displacement requirements of the upper structure.

By attaching a 1.5mm-3mm thick polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) sheet to the surface of the laminated bearing, a PTFE sliding laminated rubber bearing can be manufactured. In addition to providing vertical stiffness and elastic deformation to withstand vertical loads and accommodate beam end rotation, the low friction coefficient of the PTFE sheet allows the beam end to slide freely on the PTFE surface, with unrestricted horizontal displacement. This makes it particularly suitable for bridges with medium to small loads and large displacements.
