I. Product Characteristics

Isothiazolinone is mainly composed of 5-chloro-2-methyl-4-isothiazolin-3-one (CMI) and 2-methyl-4-isothiazolin-3-one (MI). It acts as a biocide by breaking the bonds of bacterial and algal proteins. Upon contact with microorganisms, isothiazolinone rapidly and irreversibly inhibits their growth, leading to cell death. It is highly effective against common bacteria, fungi, algae, and other microorganisms. It features high biocidal efficiency, operational safety, good compatibility, strong stability, and low usage cost. It works particularly well when compounded with quaternary ammonium salts.

III. Uses and Methods

Isothiazolinone is a broad-spectrum, highly efficient, low-toxicity non-oxidizing biocide. It is an ideal biocide for industrial circulating cooling water and papermaking wastewater treatment. It is widely used in oil fields, papermaking, pesticides, cutting oils, leather, detergents, and cosmetics as a bactericide. It can be used in combination with other non-oxidizing biocides for synergistic effects. At high doses, it has a significant effect on bio-slime stripping.

IV. Packaging and Storage

Isothiazolinone is packaged in plastic drums, 25 kg per drum, or as specified by the customer. It should be stored in a cool, indoor place with a shelf life of ten months.

V. Safety Precautions

Isothiazolinone is corrosive to the skin, can cause skin burns, and may lead to allergic dermatitis. Avoid contact with skin and eyes. Operators should wear protective goggles and rubber gloves. If contact with skin occurs, immediately remove contaminated clothing and shoes, rinse with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes, apply urea acetate ointment or burn ointment to the affected area, and seek medical attention immediately.
