Features and Applications: Raw material for chemical analysis reagents. Gamma-cyclodextrin consists of eight glucose units connected end-to-end to form a cyclic compound. Compared to beta-cyclodextrin, it has a larger cavity diameter (approximately 1.3 times that of beta-cyclodextrin), a larger cavity volume (about 1.6 times that of beta-cyclodextrin), better water solubility (12.5 times that of beta-cyclodextrin), and better cavity compatibility (no cyclic hydrogen bonds, non-rigid ring), making gamma-cyclodextrin more promising for applications than beta-cyclodextrin.
The water solubility of gamma-cyclodextrin is 23.2g/100ml (25°C), but in some cases, solubility still limits its application. After hydroxypropylation, the product hydroxypropyl-gamma-cyclodextrin has its water solubility further increased to 80g/100ml (25°C). Additionally, hydroxypropylated gamma-cyclodextrin is no longer a single pure compound but a mixture of various substitutions, making it less prone to forming crystalline inclusion compounds with guest molecules. Overall, hydroxypropyl-gamma-cyclodextrin exhibits higher water solubility and stronger resistance to crystallization.
Recommended for use in higher value-added products, such as pharmaceuticals, health products, cosmetics, and other specialty materials, or for the treatment of larger molecules that hydroxypropyl-beta-cyclodextrin cannot encapsulate.
