Physical and chemical properties: White crystals, easily deliquescent, specific gravity (17°C) 1.67. Melting point 152°C, soluble in water, acetic acid, glycerol, insoluble in ether.
Uses: This product is mainly used as a reducing agent and developer. In organic synthesis, it is used to prepare oximes, and also as a raw material for synthesizing anticancer drugs (hydroxyurea), sulfa drugs (sinomin), and pesticides (methomyl). In electroanalysis, it is used as a depolarizer, and in the synthetic rubber industry, it is used as a non-staining short-term stopper.
