Spun silk spinning is the process of converting defective cocoons and waste silk from sericulture, silk reeling, and silk weaving into yarn. Depending on the raw materials and the properties of the finished product, spun silk spinning is divided into two main categories: spun silk spinning and noil spinning. The products include spun silk and noil. Spun silk fibers are fine, long, soft, lustrous, and highly absorbent, making them suitable for spinning high-count yarns and weaving lightweight spun silk fabrics for clothing. They can also be interwoven with chemical fibers, raw silk, or wool yarn to create aesthetically pleasing and comfortable fabrics. Spun silk can be used to produce knitted fabrics, as well as sewing threads and embroidery threads. Fabrics made from noil, known as noil cloth, are soft and characterized by a surface with many slubs, offering a unique style for apparel materials.
