Hot-dip galvanizing, also known as hot-dip zinc coating, is an effective method for metal corrosion prevention and has been widely used in metal structural facilities across various industries. The process involves immersing rust-removed steel components into molten zinc at approximately 800°C, causing a zinc layer to adhere to the surface. The zinc layer thickness must not be less than 65μm for thin plates under 5mm and not less than 86μm for thick plates, thereby achieving the purpose of corrosion prevention.

In a specific environment, the lifespan of the coating primarily depends on its thickness, which is in turn determined by the thickness of the steel. Thicker steel tends to yield a thicker coating, so thicker parts of the same steel structure will naturally obtain a thicker coating, resulting in a longer lifespan.

For aesthetic, artistic, or use in specific highly corrosive environments, the galvanized layer can be further treated with a painting system (duplex system). As long as the paint system is correctly selected and easily applied, its corrosion resistance effect is 1.5 to 2.5 times better than the combined lifespan of painting alone and hot-dip galvanizing.

Besides the hot-dip galvanizing method, there are several other methods for protecting steel with a zinc layer. Their advantages and disadvantages are compared in Table 3. Generally, the most widely used, most effective for corrosion prevention, and most economically beneficial method is hot-dip galvanizing.
