The Ducom Automatic Aviation Fuel Lubricity Tester is designed to evaluate the lubricating performance of aviation turbine fuel distributed within a ball-on-cylinder configuration.

The Ball-on-Cylinder Lubricity Evaluator (BOCLE) - TR-29 Automatic Aviation Fuel Lubricity Tester is an automated ball-on-cylinder wear testing system that provides a rapid, repeatable assessment of jet fuel performance, fully compliant with ASTM D5001, the test method for measuring aviation turbine fuel lubricity using the Ball-on-Cylinder Lubricity Evaluator (BOCLE).


The Ducom BOCLE consists of a rotating ring, with a ball pressed against it by a force. The fuel being tested is contained in a trough beneath the ring, which is partially submerged. The TR-29 is equipped with the WinDucom control and data acquisition system.

Test Method

Determines the wear condition of aviation turbine fuel's boundary lubrication performance on friction steel surfaces.

Instrument Features

Simple user interface: a digital computer controls all instrument functions;

Standard ASTM D5001 test procedure pre-loaded into the microprocessor controller: the operator installs cleaned specimens, adds the fuel sample, and presses the "Start Test" button;

Automated control of test sequence: the measurement process requires no operator intervention;

Automatic flow controller manages humid and dry air: no operator control is needed to adjust air humidity and flow;

PC-based data logging of motor speed, test time, fuel temperature, air temperature, humidity, and a printed summary confirming all parameters are within specified ranges;

Interchangeable humidity and temperature probes: humidity and temperature measurements do not require recalibration; simply replace the combined relative humidity and temperature probe with an exchange pre-calibrated unit;

Heating and cooling system: Peltier heating and cooling system;

PC-based data acquisition and analysis system for motor speed, test time, fuel temperature, air temperature, and humidity;

Ultrasonic cleaner;

The computer-controlled Automatic Aviation Fuel Lubricity Tester is a single, compact, benchtop-mounted instrument that meets the requirements of the ASTM standard.
