I. Purpose

This instrument is primarily used to measure the whiteness of various materials such as paper and paperboard, pulp and chemical fiber pulp, cotton and chemical fibers, textiles, plastics, ceramics, enamel, starch, table salt, white cement, china clay, talcum powder, etc. It can also measure the optical properties of thin sheet materials, including opacity.

1. Measure the blue diffuse reflectance factor (R457) of the sample, referred to as "blue light whiteness" or "ISO Brightness".

2. Analyze whether the sample material contains fluorescent whitening agents and measure the fluorescent whiteness generated by fluorescence emission, i.e., the degree of whitening.

3. Measure the brightness stimulus value Y10 of the sample, i.e., the green light diffuse reflectance factor Ry.

4. Measure the opacity, transparency, light scattering coefficient, and light absorption coefficient of the sample.

5. Measure the ink absorption value of paper and paperboard.

II. Main Technical Features

1. This instrument complies with GB3978; standard illuminants and illumination observation conditions. It simulates D65 illuminant lighting. It adopts d/o illumination observation geometry conditions, with a diffuse sphere diameter of 150mm and a test aperture diameter of 30mm. Equipped with a light absorber, it eliminates the influence of specular reflection from the sample. The spectral power distribution of the R457 whiteness optical system has a peak wavelength of 457nm and a half-bandwidth of 44nm. The Y10 optical system complies with GB3979; methods for measuring object color.
