Method for Creating Architectural Models Using Liquid Mold Silicone Rubber

1. Preparation: Treat the master mold blank (i.e., the prototype of the architectural model) with a release agent to ensure smooth demolding of the silicone later. Also, prepare wooden strips or plastic boards for building the mold frame and treat them with a release agent as well.
2. Mixing the Silicone: Based on the type and product instructions of HF-318 liquid silicone rubber, accurately weigh component A (silicone) and component B (curing agent). For example, take 500g of silicone and add 1.5% curing agent at room temperature, then mix thoroughly until uniform.
3. Degassing: Subject the thoroughly mixed silicone to vacuum degassing to remove air bubbles. The vacuum time should not be too long; normally, it should not exceed ten minutes to prevent premature curing of the silicone.
4. Pouring or Brushing the Silicone: For simple architectural models, use the pouring method: slowly pour the prepared silicone into the framed master mold blank from a fixed pouring point, shaking it occasionally to remove trapped air. For complex models or those requiring fine details, use the brushing method: first, brush a layer of silicone onto the master mold blank, after 30 minutes, apply a layer of gauze fiber cloth to enhance the silicone's strength and tensile properties, then brush another layer of silicone and apply another layer of gauze fiber cloth, repeating this process two to three times.
5. Waiting for Curing: The curing time of silicone varies depending on its properties and the amount of curing agent added. Generally, it takes about 60 minutes for the silicone to fully cure.
6. Making the Outer Mold: After the silicone has cured, create the outer mold as needed. Typically, plaster or resin is used. For example, mix 1000g of plaster powder with water and pour it into the wooden frame until full. Once the plaster has cured, remove the wooden strips, and the mold is complete.
