     Deuterium gas, also known as heavy hydrogen, is a colorless, odorless, non-toxic, flammable gas under normal temperature and pressure, and is a stable isotope of ordinary hydrogen. It constitutes 0.0139% to 0.0157% of the hydrogen in ordinary water. Its chemical properties are identical to those of ordinary hydrogen, but due to its greater mass, its reaction rate is somewhat slower. It is mainly used in special light bulbs, nuclear research, as bombarding particles in deuteron accelerators, as a tracer, and a 1~3% D2 + N2 mixture is widely used in low water peak optical fiber treatment.
