Application: Used for bulb filling and arc welding of stainless steel, magnesium, aluminum, etc.

Uses:

A noble gas. Used as a shielding gas in arc welding (cutting) of stainless steel, magnesium, aluminum, and other alloys. Also used in the smelting of steel, aluminum, titanium, and zirconium. When discharged, argon emits a purple glow and is also used in lighting technology and to fill fluorescent lamps, phototubes, lighting tubes, etc.

In the brewing process, it serves as a filler in beer barrels to displace oxygen, preventing the ingredients in the beer barrel from being oxidized into acetic acid.

It is also used in heat treatment processes as a replacement for nitrogen and ammonia, with effects surpassing both. When used in the heat treatment of stainless steel, argon protection results in better bending effects and reduces the risk of fracture.

Health Hazards:

Non-toxic under normal atmospheric pressure. At high concentrations, it reduces oxygen partial pressure, leading to suffocation. Argon concentrations above 50% cause severe symptoms; above 75%, death can occur within minutes. When argon concentration in the air increases, symptoms include accelerated breathing, loss of concentration, and incoordination, followed by fatigue, irritability, nausea, vomiting, coma, convulsions, and death. Liquid argon can cause skin frostbite; eye contact may lead to inflammation. Toxicological data and environmental behavior hazard characteristics: If exposed to high heat, internal pressure in containers may increase, risking cracking and explosion.

First Aid Measures

1. Cut off the gas source, quickly evacuate the leak-contaminated area. Personnel handling leak incidents should wear self-contained positive pressure respirators. Those handling liquid argon should wear anti-freeze protective gear. If a gas cylinder is leaking and cannot be sealed, move the cylinder to an open, safe area for release.

2. Protective Measures Respiratory protection: Generally, no special protection is needed. However, when the oxygen concentration in the workplace is below 18%, an air respirator, oxygen respirator, or long-tube mask must be worn.

Storage Precautions

Store in a ventilated warehouse, away from ignition sources and heat sources; gas cylinders should have anti-tipping measures. Low-temperature liquid storage tanks larger than 10 cubic meters should not be placed indoors. Packaged gas products are high-pressure filled gases and must be減壓減壓 before use. All gas cylinders have a designated service life; cylinders that have reached their expiration must be sent to relevant departments for safety inspection before continued use. When the gas in each cylinder is nearly depleted, retain a residual pressure of 0.5MPa, with a minimum of not less than 0.25MPa. Close the cylinder valve to ensure gas quality and usage safety. Packaged gas products should be categorized and stacked during transportation, storage, and use. Flammable gases and combustion-supporting gases must not be stored together. Keep away from open flames and heat sources. Avoid fire, oil, wax, direct sunlight, heavy throwing, and impact. Do not perform arc welding or striking arcs on gas cylinders. Avoid rough handling.
