Slave devices only respond to the master when a command request is received. Modbus slave devices periodically input data according to the user-configured frequency. Output requests from the CP60 are immediately received by the FBM224 at the configured frequency.
Communication between the FBM224 and Modbus slave devices is facilitated through a four-port terminal accessory. Each port used for RS-422 or RS-485 wiring features a dense terminal block, with each port having a DIP switch to select bus termination resistance. For RS-232 wiring, the terminal accessory TA has a standard DB-25 male connector, with 24 DIP switch strips per port, which can be used for any RS-232 configuration (e.g., connection to transmit or request to transmit).
Configuration tools for both Windows and Solaris are used to set up the FBM224 communication ports and slave configuration files. The port configurator allows easy setting of communication parameters for each port (e.g., communication interface standard, baud rate, parity). The device processing configurator enables convenient setting of processing specifications for slave device files (e.g., scan rate, function code, starting address for data transmission, and the total amount of data transmitted in one cycle). Each Modbus device can support up to 64 individual processing tasks. During the configuration process, selected parameters and options are automatically checked.
