As a new environmentally friendly brominated flame retardant, brominated SBS is easier to shape during mechanical processing compared to hexabromocyclododecane. It exhibits minimal stress during processes such as melting mixtures, injection molding, and extruded foam formation, with almost no thermal degradation. The processing temperature can reach above 230°C, demonstrating good thermal stability. Additionally, the flame retardant of this invention has excellent compatibility and does not negatively affect the mechanical properties of the materials it is added to, making it a good substitute for hexabromocyclododecane.
The innovative brominated polymeric flame retardant BR-SBS possesses multiple excellent properties and serves as a current alternative to HBCD. Br-SBS offers the following advantages:
· The product is a stable high molecular weight polymer.
· It can be used in conjunction with synergists in current EPS/XPS flame retardant systems.
· It is not prone to moisture absorption, helping to reduce the residual water content in EPS beads and improve production efficiency.
· Under the same bromine content conditions, the flame retardant performance of Br-SBS in polystyrene foam is comparable to that of HBCD.
· Its polymeric structure makes it less likely to be absorbed by organisms, eliminating environmental concerns.
